Me, Me and Me

The masked figures seek acceptance from each other and the audience while experiencing a strong urge for personal space.
Their feelings of being cool and stupid are also annoyingly unpredictable.

In the performance Me, Me and Me, we meet four different characters that are actually the same person. The masked figures seek acceptance from each other and the audience while experiencing a strong urge for personal space. Their feelings of being cool and stupid are also annoyingly unpredictable. The characters in the performance are characterized by the performance culture and are trying to be an elevated edition of itself, this symbolized by maximalistic costumes and masks. The androgynous masking raises questions about gender because it is not possible to read the performers identity. The performance can help expand the perception of elements and instruments of popular culture through the context of contemporary dance. The piece is touching, fun, beautiful and tough. By playing with shape and genre, Th'Line wishes to create curiosity for what dance can be and inspire the audience to recognize the game in everyday life.

The piece starts with the live sculpture KJETIL that is made of 100 used VHS cassette tapes. In the piece this installation frames the whole room and has many different connotations that can make the viewer think of: recycling, waste and oil. It can also conjure up images linked to the Norwegian traditional Troll like creatures like The Nix.

Me, Me and Me had it’s premiere at Ravnedans Festival 2017 and has since performed at Showbox, Heddadagene at Kloden in Oslo and at The Cultural Rucksack in Hordaland. Internationally Me, Me and Me has been shown in Schouwburg, Motel Mozaique in Rotterdam and at Starke Stücke, Theaterhaus Frankfurt.

“We enjoy combining what is beautiful, stupid and cool by putting popular culture imagery in a setting of contemporary dance/installation. By blurring formes and pushing boundaries, we are very serious about creating strong artistic work that doesn´t take ourselves too seriously“
